Global Leaders Forum publishes joint statement on subsea cable planning

More than 200,000 kilometres of future carrier subsea cable demand identified.

[London, 12/10/26] – The Global Leaders Forum (GLF) has today published a joint statement following an open industry initiative that brought carriers and subsea vendors together to improve long-term planning.

Participating carriers shared forward-looking project forecasts, which were aggregated, anonymised and passed to vendors as a single industry view. Together they identified demand for more than 200,000 kilometres of future subsea cable.

This is the first step in an ongoing process. The GLF will continue to convene the ecosystem to build on the trust established and support a more coordinated approach to delivering the subsea capacity the world needs.

Enrico Bagnasco, Chair of the Global Leaders Forum and CEO of Sparkle, said: "No single organisation can solve the subsea delivery challenge alone. This initiative shows what the community can achieve when carriers and vendors share their plans openly and trust a neutral forum to bring them together. It's an important first step, and we're committed to building on it so that the connectivity the world depends on gets the capacity it needs.”
